I always liked the idea of giving a girl just the single flower, at least at first. You weren’t dumping a whole bunch of flowers on someone that you’d barely just met. But at the same time, you were trying to convey the impression that you cared enough about the date to work in a few touches.
Back then, I’d go for the single rose at first, because well, I just didn’t know any better really. And roses are a classic after all. Then later, when I came across people who would tell me that roses were something of a lazy choice, or that there were other flowers to choose from you know, then I would sometimes throw in a tulip every once in a while. And really, you didn’t make a big deal out of it. You met up with the girl. You gave her the flower. And you moved on. She might just choose to leave it at home, or maybe in the car. No big deal.
